One of Virginia's remaining stone-arch bridges, which also witnessed a prologue to the Battle of Gettysburg, is joining Northern Virginia's collection of protected parks. Goose Creek Bridge was built around 1802 during Thomas Jefferson's first presidential term.

If the new tolls on Interstate 66 inside the Capital Beltway are designed to push drivers out of their cars and on to transit, it doesn't appear to be working. On Thursday, we asked Metro if it has noticed a spike in ridership on the Orange and Silver lines, which serve Loudoun and Fairfax counties.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from midnight to 4 p.m. Saturday for a swath of the D.C. region, including Prince William, eastern Loudoun and Stafford counties.

A Loudoun County supervisor says he isn't giving up after his resolution pressing the Virginia Department of Transportation to immediately lower tolls on Interstate 66 failed to move forward in an important transportation committee. "We're talking about real people's lives," said Loudoun County Supervisor Ron Meyer, who also sits on the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, an independent panel that promotes transportation improvements.

One of many efforts to suspend or cap tolling for solo drivers using I-66 inside the beltway at rush hour hit a road block Thursday evening when the northern Virginia Transportation Commission voted 13 to 5 to postpone action on a resolution to do that until January. "I'm not sure that it has the support on that commission because there's a lot of people from the inner suburbs that are quite ok with basically pricing people out of their cars and forcing them into transit rather than making transit the better option," said commission member and Loudoun County Board of Supervisors member Ron Meyer.
