Investigators in Virginia say a Muslim teenager who was attacked and killed early Sunday as she and a group of teenagers walked back to a mosque may have been sexually assaulted. Fairfax County police spokeswoman Tawny Wright said Tuesday that police were investigating the possibility that Nabra Hassanen, 17, was sexually assaulted.

Leaders from the Muslim and Jewish faiths came together Tuesday in Reston, Virginia, to discuss Sunday's murder of 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen. She was among a group of teens who were walking and biking to the All Dulles Area Muslim Society mosque, or ADAMS Center, when Fairfax County police say there was an argument with a driver, who then got out of his car with a baseball bat and chased them.

A 17-year-old American Muslim girl was beaten and abducted after leaving a mosque in Virginia on Sunday by a man who police later arrested on suspicion of murder after her body was found dumped in a pond, authorities said. The attack spurred an outpouring of grief and horror in a Muslim community that has been gathering to pray at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society mosque about 30 miles outside Washington in observance of the last 10 days of Ramadan.

Police found remains Sunday thought to be those of a missing Virginia teenager who they say was assaulted and disappeared overnight after leaving a mosque in the Sterling area, and a 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the case. The mosque, the All Dulles Area Muslim Society in Sterling, Virginia, and relatives identified the girl as 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen of Reston.
