    It took a lot of technical skill to create the sense of speed conveyed through Sonic's fast-running action. The environments blast past quickly, but look great.

    Zips, spins and sproings from springs characterize Sonic's sound effects. The soundtrack is classic Sega, and lives on in Genesis fans' minds to this day.

    Six zones with three acts apiece, a final showdown and several special bonus stages. Sonic isn't the longest game, but it's highly replayable.

    Run fast. Really, really fast. Sonic's gameplay is remarkably simple, as the hero can really only run and jump. But that simplicity makes it accessible and fun for all.
